What we do
Our process
Microalgal Cultivation
SAFER Earth grows local microalgae in open raceway ponds, replicating nature’s most productive coastal ecosystems. These microscopic organisms capture CO₂, remove nutrients, and condition seawater with minimal inputs of energy and nutrients. The result is stable, high-quality biomass that as a by-product restores ocean health and supports large-scale decarbonisation.
Harvesting, Drying and Burial
As the algae grow, they absorb carbon and nutrients from seawater, forming easy-to-harvest flocs. The biomass is filtered, solar-dried, and stored as a stable carbon sink, naturally protected from decay. This process delivers measurable carbon removals and helps restore coastal pH to pre-industrial levels, supporting marine life and biodiversity.
Mineral Recovery
Once the biomass is harvested, seawater is treated through electrolysis to trigger mineral precipitation. Valuable compounds such as magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate are recovered, while the water is softened and cleared of impurities. This reduces fouling in desalination systems and improves efficiency at every stage.
Soft Brackish Water
Conditioned seawater becomes soft, low-salinity brackish water, ideal for desalination, mining, and green energy processes. The pretreatment lowers energy demand, reduces chemical use, and cuts costs, producing freshwater and cleaner brine streams optimised for reuse or further mineral recovery.
Who we work with
SAFER Earth’s integrated system serves industries that rely on seawater processing.
Desalination
Reduces membrane fouling and operating costs, improving energy efficiency and output.
Mining
Cuts emissions, recovers minerals, and conditions water for reuse.
Data Centres and Thermal Cooling
Delivers cleaner, low-carbon water systems and more sustainable discharge.
Green Hydrogen and Ammonia
Provides soft brackish water for electrolysis while capturing and storing CO₂.
Our advantage
When combined with existing seawater operations such as desalination or aquaculture, SAFER Earth’s pretreatment process reduces energy use and creates new value streams.
It lowers costs, generates carbon credits, and produces sustainable materials — achieving a payback period of less than two years.
Our vision
The SAFER system is designed to operate in arid coastal regions across the globe, using renewable energy to produce freshwater, capture carbon, and restore ecosystems.
Powered by renewable or ultra-low-emission energy, SAFER decarbonises freshwater production while capturing carbon and reducing emissions tied to magnesium and calcium minerals - all with superior returns.
We collaborate with leaders in seawater electrolysis, bio-cement, cement and minerals to create sustainable commodities with negative carbon footprints. In addition, by upcycling the algal biomass and mineral byproducts, SAFER can support local agriculture through soil amendments and soil carbon, improving freshwater production while improving soil health.
